Behind the counter at the post office in Little Saigon, Raymond Tran dispenses stamps for the adults, candy for the little ones and advice to all. He’s manned the station since 1991, working as a public servant but also a translator and a friend to the Vietnamese Americans who patronize the post office. It’s a community gathering spot, part business, part social hub.
