The market is ranked 15th in the list of 45 “Best food markets around the world”, with the La Boqueria market (Barcelona, Spain), Borough market (London, UK) and Noryangjin fish market (Seoul, South Korea) as the top three markets.

The Ben Thanh market in the southern hub is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the area.

Located in a lively area of the city, visitors go to the market to browse for textiles, souvenirs, handicrafts and eat local cuisine, with many vendors preparing fresh food made to order, the American newspaper said.

Visitors stop at the market for a “real Vietnamese meal” like entire fish that are deep-fried, or go for beverages such as smoothies and iced coffee.

In the evening, visitors can sit at temporary sidewalk restaurants serving local dishes like pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) and banh canh cua (crab noodle soup).
