HANOI – A man caught smuggling live pangolins in an ambulance with fake number plates in central Vietnam has been fined the equivalent of US$20,000, an official said Wednesday.

Le Van Tung, 26, was chased and arrested last month after he failed to stop when signalled by police in Dong Hoa district, Phu Yen province.
Officers found 49 live pangolins in the ambulance, worth an estimated $25,000, Do Duy Vinh, spokesman of the provincial People’s Committee told dpa.
