In this day and age where people are more health conscious but have less time to prepare home cooked meals, startup companies like Munchery are cashing in – to the tune of $85 million. In the latest funding round, chief executive and co-founder Tri Tran said that money will be used to expand operations and further lower the cost of its meals to make it accessible to everyone.

Munchery currently cooks and delivers pre-ordered dinners to people in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Seattle and New York. Soon they will start offering meals on weekends and lunches as well.

Munchery launched over 3 years ago and the cost of the meals have gone from $25 to $10-$12. With a larger number of customers, they have a greater ingredient purchasing power, making the price point cheaper for consumers. They hope to lower it further to $7 to $8 in future.
