The population of senior citizens in Germany already numbers 21 percent and is expected to rise in the next few decades, but Germany lacks enough nursing professionals trained to care for a geriatric population. Now, Germany and Vietnam have launched a pilot program to train Vietnamese citizens to provide nursing care for elder Germans. Japan, with about 25 percent of its population above age 65, also is looking to Vietnam for geriatric nurses.
