Being a part of the Star Wars franchise in any capacity is a pretty big deal and relative newcomer Kelly Marie Tran is about to feel the full force of what that association means when she makes her debut in the next installment. Disney announced over the weekend that filming has begun for the hotly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VIII. They also revealed a handful of new castings, including Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura Dern, and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.

The Star Wars franchise obviously spotted some major talent in relative newcomers Daisy Ridley and John Boyega when they were castingThe Force Awakens, so the inclusion of Kelly Marie Tran in this latest announcement obviously piqued our interest.

So who is Tran? Fans of internet comedy may recognize the UCLA graduate from her work in a number of College  Humor videos, including one called “Periods Aren’t That Gross,” along with a few comedic web series like “Ladies Like Us”. Tran has also done some film and TV work, appearing on Lifetime’s Fall Into Me, NBC’s “About a Boy”, and Amazon’s ”Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street”. The funny lady also has a supporting role in a Netflix project called “XoXo”.

There’s no word on exactly who Tran will be playing in Star Wars: Episode VIII, but it seems like a safe bet that her character will probably be the comedic relief as the drama intensifies for Rey, Finn, Poe, and the rest of the gang.

Check out some of Tran’s comedic work below. Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
