WESTMINSTER, Calif. ― The Vietnamese American Armed Forces Association presented scholarships to four Vietnamese American students on Saturday at Freedom Park.

Thao-Ann Nguyen of Irvine, Diana V. Ho of Westminster, Joan P. Vu of Westminster and Katrina Nguyen of Garden Grove each received $1,000.
The VAAFA Fallen Heroes Scholarship supports outstanding Vietnamese American students in their pursuit of college studies while actively promoting the recognition and acknowledgment of the 12 Vietnamese Americans who gave their lives in support of freedom for this country.
Thao-Ann Nguyen graduated from Northwood High School with a GPA of 3.72. She now attends UCLA and majors in biology.
“I am proud to receive this award because it reminds me how generous … this community is,” she said while accepting her award. “I will use this opportunity to give back to the community and fulfill my education goal.”

Ho graduated from Westminster High School with a GPA of 4.44. She attends the University of California, Irvine, and majors in public health.
“I am very honored to have the ability to pursue my dreams by helping others in my community and spreading the recognition of our fallen heroes,” Ho said.

Vu, a graduate from Marina High School with a GPA of 4.02, studies environmental technology at the University of California, Davis.
“I am honored to receive this award as a reminder of our fallen heroes in the armed forces. I will do my best to represent the VAAFA and carry on the memory of the soldiers who are currently serving and formerly served in the armed forces,” Vu said.

Katrina Nguyen graduated from Pacific High School with a GPA of 3.88 and attends the University of California, Irvine, majoring in business administration.

“I am grateful to receive this award and to help keep the memory of the soldiers who lost their lives fighting and to support those who are now in service,” she said.
