As the second largest city in the nation, Los Angeles voted to up the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020. This is almost double the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, a number that the Obama administration is keen to raise with Congress’s approval.

Mayor Eric Garcetti is a supporter of this hike and said he is looking forward to helping one million Los Angeles workers who are living in poverty.
The small Washington town of SeaTac was the first municipality to institute a floor of $15 an hour, and it was followed by Seattleand San Francisco.
