For the past 35 years, the Union of the Vietnamese Student Associations have come together to put on a Tet Festival that allows the community to come and share in the festivities. Of the things that people come to celebrate, crowing the winner of the Miss Vietnam of Southern California 2016 Pageant is a big deal and this year, the title went to 21-year-old Ashley Hoang Thủy Phương Anh, a University of California at Irvine student.

Hoang competed against 19 other collegiate women for the title and took home the crown after showcasing her talent on the zither, a traditional Vietnamese instrument. Hoang and others competed in the evening gown and ao dai portions before the field was narrowed down to the top 10. Hoang is studying to be a pharmacist.
Members of the Royal Court include Vũ Hoàng Phương Linh, who was the First Princess, while Judy Châu Thụy Phương Thảo, 22, took home the Second Princess title. Daisy Doan, 17, was named Miss Congeniality while Miss Photogenic was awarded to Ngô Ngọc Quỳnh Trân, 20. Elizabeth Vũ Long Liên Hà, 25, won Miss Ao Dai.
