A Mississippi man is finding out the hard way that any threats, even via social media, is taken seriously by law enforcement officials, especially when it is directed toward them. Crestview Police Department arrested Dat Tran, 24, after he made threat’s on a Facebook page he created.

Tran created a fake Facebook account under the name Stephen Tran and made violent threats against police officers and other residents who posted or shared messages on the department’s page. Crestview investigators working with the Biloxi, Miss., Police Department and U.S. Marshal’s Service discovered Tran was behind the Facebook account after they served subpoenas on his fraudulent Facebook page. Additional search warrants were executed on his vehicle and home.
Tran is a former Crestview resident and had moved to Biloxi recently, according to lawmen. Biloxi police arrested Tran and charged him with two felony counts of making threats to kill or commit bodily harm against law enforcement officers. Additional charges are expected. Tran will await extradition to Florida to face the charges.
