University of Georgia students of all backgrounds gathered in Tate Grand Hall on Sunday to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
The Asian American Student Association treated attendees to dinner and a show celebrating the year of the goat. The Lunar New Year, a day celebrated by several nations across Asia, will take place Thursday.

Sunday’s celebration is the AASA’s largest event of the year, with this year’s dinner hosting more than 260 people. Alyssa Pel, president of the AASA, hoped the celebration would spread awareness about Asian American culture on campus.
“All the performances and the food kind of showcases Asian American culture, similar to a celebration that we’d have in the home,” she said. “We’re just bringing it out on a larger scale so that we can share it amongst the Athens and UGA community.”
