This is the case with a San Jose priest who was indicted on federal fraud and tax evasion charges.  Hien Minh Nguyen, a priest with the Diocese of San Jose, is charged with 14 counts of bank fraud as well as failing to report hundreds of thousands of dollars in income between 2008 and 2011. The 55-year-old priest was arrested on Saturday in Florida and appeared in federal court in Ft. Lauderdale on Monday. He is expected to face federal charges eventually in San Francisco.

Nguyen has been a priest since 1994 and was the director of the Vietnamese Catholic Center.
According to the indictment, Niguyen asked parishioners to write checks to the Vietnamese Catholic Center but diverted close to $19,000 into his own accounts. The tax fraud count also alleges that Nguyen under reported his income by close to $1.1 million from 2008 through 2011.
