The Garden Grove Unified School District has scheduled a parenting seminar on teen substance abuse and the effect of drugs on adolescent behavior. The free workshop takes place on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium at Bolsa Grande High School, 9401 Westminster Ave., Garden Grove.
The workshop, another installment in the district’s “The Power of Parents” series, features informative presentations by health educators from the Community Service Programs organization and a clinical psychologist. They will provide insights on the latest drug trends, including how drugs affect judgment, problem solving and emotions. There will be an opportunity for parents to view drug paraphernalia and learn strategies in communicating with teens about drugs, tobacco and alcohol.
All presentations are in English with interpretation in Vietnamese, Spanish and Korean. The community, parents, and guardians are invited.
Information and resources will be available from representatives of partner community agencies including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove, Community Service Programs, Garden Grove Police Department, Magnolia Park Family Resource Center, and treatment and rehabilitation agencies.
Free child care will be provided for children ages 2 to 12.
