There are a lot of things that mark the coming of the Lunar New Year, and for one village in the north of Vietnam, slaughtering two pigs in public is one of them.
Why you ask? For good luck of course. Part of the ritual includes decapitating the pigs, and then dipping money into its blood with the hope of a prosperous year. As you can imagine, many people do not agree with this age old practice and have called on officials to ban this ritual. However, locals say it is a tradition and does not promote animal cruelty.
